Anna Sergeyevna Kurnikova (born in Russian) is a native of America who was a ex-prodigy of tennis and a TV presenter. Her appearance and celebrity status made her one of the top tennis celebrities around the world. Anna Kournikova played tennis pro in Russia for many years. At one time, she was considered the greatest female tennis star. Kournikova played in singles, with little results, however her doubles partner was extremely productive. The way she modeled and looked earned her international fame. She is still among the best athletes searched on the Internet. Kournikova was an average modern baseliner who moved her ball about the court with pace and spin. She was characterized by her powerful back, deep groundstrokes, as well as a desire to get close to the net at any time the opportunity was right. When she was 14, she became the youngest person to be awarded the Fed Cup and compete in professional tennis. In her 15th year, she won the U.S. Open. Later, at 16 she made it all the way to Wimbledon's semifinals. Unfortunately she had to retire from tennis professionally at the age of 21 because of chronic back pain.
